ABOUT

Delivering justice: the cinematic climax of an era

In our most narratively ambitious collaboration with Blizzard to date, we produced the “Justice” launch trailer for World of Warcraft: Fall of the Lich King. This project serves as the definitive cinematic conclusion to the Wrath of the Lich King Classic saga. Our mission was to capture the cold, oppressive atmosphere of Icecrown Citadel and the weight of the final confrontation between the Argent Crusade and the Lich King himself, ensuring that this legendary chapter of gaming history received the grand finale it deserved.

CHALLENGE

Representing a legend: the pressure of perfecting the Lich King

The stakes for this project were uniquely high; as Radim Zeifart noted, every fan has a personal connection to how the Lich King should look and move. Our challenge was to take an incredibly detailed, complex model with intricate cloth simulations, armor, and frost magic, and make it feel imposing and real within a modern CGI context. We had to balance the technical demands of showcasing his most powerful lieutenants—like Sindragosa and Professor Putricide—while keeping the emotional focus on the inevitable, tragic showdown atop the Frozen Throne.

This year was the greatest test our studio has ever faced. For Blizzard, we worked on over six minutes of content, and the Lich King project was particularly demanding due to the complexity of the character’s animations and magic simulations. These projects have pushed us to innovate, and we are now moving toward integrating AI tools to automate the technical ‘busy work,’ allowing our team to focus entirely on the creative heart of these epic stories.

CRAFT

Synthesizing high-fidelity simulations and legendary assets

To bring the frozen heart of Northrend to life, we utilized a powerful cross-platform pipeline involving Cinema 4D, Maya, and Blender. The “Justice” trailer required heavy use of EmberGen for the swirling necrotic mists and ice effects that define the Citadel’s environment. Each hero and villain was refined using ZBrush and Substance Painter to ensure that materials like plate armor and ancient runeblades reacted authentically to our dynamic lighting setups. The final composite in After Effects focused on a desaturated, icy palette that emphasized the grim reality of the assault on the Scourge.

RESULT

A multi-million view milestone and a community triumph

The “Justice” trailer was an immediate sensation, garnering over a million views within its first few weeks and resonating deeply with the global Warcraft community. By focusing on the “Justice” theme and the iconic imagery of the Argent Crusade’s march, we helped drive massive player re-engagement for the final patch. It stands as a testament to our studio’s ability to handle the most precious crown jewels of a major IP, delivering a product that honors the source material while pushing technical boundaries.

EXTRA

The “Hurricane” signature: fan-level detail in official lore

This project was the ultimate test of our philosophy: treating every shot with the obsessive care of a fan while maintaining the professional standards of a world-class studio. Because our lead animator, Radim “Hurricane” Zeifart, built his reputation on high-quality Warcraft tributes, the Blizzard team gave us the creative space to really lean into the iconic hero moments that fans crave. We didn't just render a trailer; we helped close a narrative circle that began nearly twenty years ago, proving that our studio is a premier choice for cinematic storytelling in the gaming industry.
